What’s the difference between bleached and unbleached coffee filters?
According to some, the bleached paper changes the flavor of the coffee. Does this mean that bleached filters actually bleed bleach into the coffee?
So, instead of adding ground up wood flavor to the coffee (as I assume unbleached filters do) bleached filters add a useful, sanitizing agent. That actually seems like a good idea to me… sometimes I suspect that my internal organs could use a chemical bath.
In any case, I am not afraid of any side-effects of bleeding, bleached paper — I built up an immunity to it during elementary school when i used to chew off the edges of loose leaf paper and textbooks.
There is also a difference in price most of the time: Bleached filters tend to be cheaper. Thus, for two reasons I will continue to purchase bleached coffee filters: They’re cheaper and they help me to stay sanitized from the inside out.
