Gold Bar (Tempe, AZ)

If you habitually coffee shop-hop and if you have lived in Tempe for the last few years then you will probably have heard of Gold Bar. They have been on the north-east corner of McClintock and Southern for the last six years. They were located on the opposite corner of the same intersection for nine years before that.

Their menu:

Gold Bar’s espresso machine, a Conti Xeos:

I found out from the barista working there that they have an impressive variety of chais (all Big Train brand): Vanilla, Spice, Green Tea and Raspberry. I tried an iced vanilla chai which was quite yummy. Not too sweet. I forgot to ask if it was caffeinated, but I doubt it.

I’ve had coffee here before on several occasions as well and it has always been good. According to the barista I interviewed, Gold Bar is Arizona’s exclusive purveyor of Allan Bros. coffee. Allan Bros. specializes in organic and fair trade coffee blends.

Wall Decor:

They use Entner-Stuart syrups for their Italian sodas.

Gold Bar’s serene atmosphere makes it an ideal place to study.

Gold Bar offers free WiFi, Jazz on Fridays and Sundays and game night on Saturdays.
I also ran into this guy, Sergio, whose artwork happens on display right now at Gold Bar:
