While my wife stopped by Altered Ego Salon (corner of Mill Ave. and Baseline) to get her hair trimmed, I couldn’t help but notice the little coffee shop, Solo Cafe, located next door.
The first thing I noticed upon entering was the open door that connects the two businesses. Turns out a married couple owns both the salon and the cafe. Their names are Chad and Tawni, pictured below:
Chad is more in charge of the cafe while Tawni is in charge of the salon.
A few things about Solo Cafe: Chad uses local business wherever possible, including Coffee Cortez, a local roaster, for his coffee. Apparently Coffee Cortez roasts and ships their beans within 24-48 hours. He also uses Maya Tea, which is based in Tucson. Paper products and pastries are also from local producers.
He also uses Third St. Chai, which is not quite as local.
I dig the leather and wood decor.
I had their light roast, which as the House Blend (pictured below). Flavor: light and luxuriously balanced.

It was no accident that Chad and Tawni chose this sign:
…they are an adventurous duo.

Overall Solo Cafe is really nice. Great coffee, great atmosphere. If I had a laptop, I would probably stop by at least bi-weekly.
