Why Coffee is Better than Energy Drinks: Taurine is Yucky

This is a pseudo-follow up to a previous post on the Starbucks Doubleshot Energy Drink

I thought the Starbucks Doubleshot Energy+Coffee bevvy couldn’t possibly have taurine in it, then i noticed that it does:

According to this Wikipedia article, taurine was originally discovered as a derivative of cow bile (hence “taurine,” which takes after the Latin word for “bull,” which is “taurus”). Taurine is also present in bull urine. I have also heard this from at least two other people, so I’m pretty sure it must be true.

The article also goes on to explain how taurine has proven to be useful in disease prevention and general bodily function. Another important note: The taurine that we consume through Monster or Rockstar is not from cow bile directly.

But cow bile? Seriously, eww.

dude taurine is found in all mamals isn’t an essential amino acid. the body uses it to help make bile and also uses it for skeletal development among many many other things. thats the one things good about energy drinks they provide you with essential b vitamins which you constantly need and also amino acids which you need as well.
