The McCafé Mocha

March 25th, 2009 · No Comments · Coffee

I ate a McDonald’s drive-thru breakfast today — A Sausage McMuffin with Egg and a McCafé Mocha. I got a large (hot) mocha for $2.99.

I didn’t get a chance to see or ask if they make the Mocha with actual espresso, but it definitely has some kind of coffee in it. The top two-thirds was good flavor-wize, the last third was really syrupy, too sweet to drink.

Not too bad over all. I would compare the mocha to a misto with a package of hot cocoa mix stirred in.

I saw her put whipped cream on this… it must have dissolved in 30 seconds.

Three hours after I consumed my sausage egg Mcmuffin and McCafé mocha I was feeling more on the ball from the time I arrived at work (no, I was not paid to say that). I’m not going to eat McDonalds three meals a day because of this, but I might hit them up once a week from now on.

Notice how much of the McDonald’s drive thru space is taken up by coffee preparation stuff. I’ll assume this mean’s McDonald’s is enjoying at least some success in the coffee market right now. I don’t envy the lady processing my order, though… she was running around like mad trying to make the mocha and do everything else.

In you didn’t know, McDonald’s McCafé offers a variety of Starbucksesque drinks such as Mochas, Lattes and Cappuccinos. From where I was sitting (in my car) I couldn’t see if they actually steamed the milk, or if they used real espresso for my mocha.
