Ikea Coffee — Bryggkaffe Mellanrost (from home)

April 3rd, 2009 · No Comments · Coffee

It was such a relief for me to have some of Ikea’s Bryggkaffe Mellanrost this morning (I would assume “Bryggkaffe Mellanrost” means “medium roast coffee” in Swedish). Lately I’ve been too busy to stock up on any decent blends for the home front, which has resulted in my day’s getting started on a less than satisfying cup of joe.

Bryggkaffe Mellanrost is smooth and balanced, leaving a pleasant nutty aftertaste. This was reminiscent of my recent experience at an Ikea store with the main difference of being much fresher.

Ikea vacuum seals their coffee, compressing it into a small cube. This probably allows them to produce and ship the coffee at the highest possible quality for the lowest possible price, thus making it possible for consumers like you and me to buy it for the low-low price of $2.99. Of course, I recently spent over a thousand dollars on flooring from the home furnishing megastore, so I’m guessing that most of their revenue is not from such novelty goods.

Overall Ikea’s coffee proved to be similar to other Ikea products — decent quality, inexpensive and very “Swedish.” As for the Swedish nickname, if I ever mention this coffee to my friends, I will most likely end up calling it “Ikea coffee.”
