There are huge fans of coffee and then there are staunch connoisseurs. Duane Sorenson is one of the latter.
Sorenson is a protuberant force in the world of elite coffee tasters/roasters. He knows his stuff and don’t wanna hear no [expletive] from nobody about it.
In addition to his handful of cafes and roasters (ref. StumptownCoffee.com) his new, farther reaching goal is to convert the heathenish, trendy coffee drinking people of New York from their wanton, coffee-drinking beliefs. Starbucks? Please.
According to this article in NY Mag, he once paid $130 for a pound of coffee from Panama that, according to him, “smelled like perfume.”
Sorenson plans on bringing a deeper, possibly less pragmatic appreciation of the blessed bean to bustling New Yorkers, which will involve weaning them off the idea that a pound of coffee should cost a paltry $10.
One of these days I would like to try coffee that tastes like perfume.
Panama Esmerelda, my friend. Arguably the best tasting coffee available on the market.
