Practical Advantages to Drinking Coffee Black (without Cream or Sugar)

May 16th, 2009 · 7 Comments · Coffee Science, Health, Tricks of the Trade

- Less chemically engineered creamer for my liver to sift through.

- This is the only way to enjoy the genuine article.

- The coffee’s natural bitterness encourages me to drink less of it.

- The aforementioned bitterness also reminds me to drink more water.

- Milk isn’t very compatible with the human digestive system anyway.

- I’ve heard bleached sugar (which I always use) isn’t good either.

- No sugar means one less thing to crash from later.

I agree with point #3, I do drink it less without creamer. Which is a shame as I like coffee…a lot.

    Mahalia, i wouldn’t call it “a shame” exactly…

I wish I had started drinking black coffee earlier in life, but I never realized that if I needed to put sugar and cream in it, it wasn’t good coffee.

Black coffee also = 0 Weight Watchers points. I’m not doing WW anymore, but that’s why I started drinking it black.

black coffee is also lower maintenance in general, no fridge or anything needed for milk, etc; only two ingredients: water and coffee

I’ll give lackluster an amen. I started going black when I was buying more half and half than milk. Taking sugar into account, I knew that the implications for my waistline were not good.

    -Sugar rots your teeth.

    - Drinking a hot beverage makes you feel full and keeps you from eating too much.

I’m a redhead who takes her coffee blond, but I use real half and half and no sugar. I get the impression that I drink less coffee than a lot of folks around here (and only decaf) so I’m not worried about the cream.
